Clips and the post kit

Open any finished run to see its clips, strongest first. On the website, each clip has Download and Post kit on its card. Everything else is in the clip's ··· menu: Edit captions, Trim / extend, Star, Mark as posted, Where I posted it, Set music, 👍 Good clip and 👎 Needs work.

In the Mac and Windows app, the card has Download. Its ··· menu has Edit captions, Set music…, Trim / extend, Post kit, Copy description, 👍 Good clip and 👎 Needs work, plus Show in Finder (Show in folder on Windows) once you have downloaded the clip. Star, Mark as posted and Where I posted it are on the website only.

What the labels mean

Matches your request means the clip covers a moment you described in the Moments note when you started the run.

Each clip also carries a kind: the shape of the moment. It helps you mix a week of posts, rather than post five of the same sort.

Speaker framing

Each clip follows the person speaking, and checks around camera changes so the frame stays on them. An unclear shot can still frame the wrong person for a moment. If a clip follows the wrong person, report it with Report a problem. On the website, open the chat, choose Report a problem and pick the video under Which video? In the app, open that run, press Support, then Report a problem: the run you have open is attached for you.

A clip keeps its framing when you fix its captions. Extra footage pulled in with Trim / extend follows the same framing where it was saved.

Stars and posted marks

On the website, choose Star in a clip's ··· menu to find it again later, and Mark as posted once you have used it. Both marks stay with the clip in your Library, on every plan. Remove star and Mark as not posted undo them.

Downloading

Download saves the finished MP4, with captions and branding already in the picture, ready to upload anywhere. Clips are 1080 by 1920.

Post kit opens the clip's ready-to-paste titles and captions. One tap copies any of them.

Where I posted it, in the clip's ··· menu on the website, records where you put the clip: Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, somewhere else, or not yet. ReelUse never posts anything for you.

Share a run

On a run with finished clips, press Share, then Create a link, then Copy. Anyone with the link can watch and download the clips without an account. They see the video's title, the date the clips were made, and the finished clips. Each clip shows a still picture, its opening line and its length, so they can tell the clips apart before pressing play. Your transcript, account details and other runs are not included.

Each clip on the link also has a Post kit: the same ready-to-paste titles and captions you see on your run page. Whoever posts the clips gets the words to post them with. To save a clip, they use the Download link under it.

Stop sharing turns the link off for everyone at once. Reset the link makes a new one and turns the old one off. Once a link exists, the button reads Shared by link. Sharing a link posts nothing to social media.

In the app, press Share…, then Create link, then Copy. Get a new link replaces the old one, and Stop sharing turns it off.

Fixing a caption

Names, places and unusual terms are what automatic captions get wrong. Choose Edit captions from the clip's ··· menu to see every word of that clip.

• Fix a word by typing over it.
• Remove a word with the × on it. It stays visible, crossed out, until you save, and ↺ brings it back.
• Add a missing word with the + between two words.

Once you change something, Captions will read shows the line as it will appear. Press Save and update clip. Only that clip is made again, the timing stays locked to the speech, and it doesn't count toward your allowance. The editor works the same way in the app, on every plan.

The editor may tell you one of three things first:

• This clip is older, so your changes take a couple of extra minutes to appear. Your change still goes through.
• Caption editing turns on once the ReelUse app on the computer that made this clip finishes sending it. The app sends every clip first, then gets each one ready for editing, one at a time. Keep the app open on that computer and editing turns on by itself.
• This clip's original video was removed after the run finished, so its captions can't be changed. The menu then says Captions can't be changed. Run the video again for a fresh set you can edit. That counts toward your allowance.

If a word is wrong every week, such as a regular speaker's name, add it once to Words we say.

Trim or extend a clip

Choose Trim / extend from the clip's ··· menu. You see the video's words. The highlighted words are your clip, and the faint words on either side are extra footage you can pull in, up to about 12 seconds each way.

1. Drag the blue [ and gold ] handles to pick the first and last word to keep. Clicking a word moves the nearer handle. The new length shows at the bottom.
2. Press Apply and update clip. The clip is cut again and made again with its captions and branding.

When the new version is ready, the clip's opening line, its file name and its post kit are rewritten for the new cut, so the caption you copy matches the clip you post. If the post kit can't be rewritten that time, the opening line and file name still change and the earlier title and caption stay.

Trimming doesn't count toward your allowance. A clip can't be shorter than 3 seconds. If you try, it says That would make the clip too short.

When a speaker opens a thought with And, So or But, the clip starts on the next word, captions included. To put the word back, drag the first handle one word to the left.

What else you may see:

• Preparing the extra footage for this clip. This usually takes a moment. The handles appear when the footage is ready.
• This clip was made in the app. Its original video stays on the computer that made it, so it can’t be trimmed or extended from the web. Trim it in the Mac or Windows app, on the computer that made it. See fixing a clip in the app.
• This clip is too old to trim, because its original video has been removed. Run the video again, with Choose the section set, for a fresh set. That counts toward your allowance.

Music for one clip

Set music picks a track for that clip alone, or No music. Press Apply and update clip and the clip is made again with it. It replaces your Branding music on that clip only, which helps when one clip is reflective and the rest are not.

The list is your own uploaded tracks, so Set music appears once you have uploaded at least one. Uploading music comes with Growth: see Branding.

After a change

When you save a caption fix, a trim or new music, the page reloads once and the clip shows Working on this clip now. It will appear here when it is ready. The page doesn't update by itself after that. Refresh the page after a minute or two to see the new version.

If a change can't be made, the clip stays exactly as it was and its card says Your last change to this clip didn't go through, so it is exactly as it was. Try it again. For a trim it says Your last trim. Nothing is lost and it doesn't count toward your allowance, so make the change again.

A clip you change keeps the branding its run was made with. If you have changed your logo or captions since, the fixed clip still matches the rest of its set. To remake a video with your new branding, use Run again on the run's page. That makes a fresh set and counts toward your allowance.

The post kit

Press Post kit on the clip. It is written for each clip while the clip is cut, so you start with words rather than a blank caption box. Every block has its own Copy button and a character count.

The title is written for someone who has never heard the speaker. The captions add what the clip leaves out, such as the passage or the point made just before, rather than repeating what the viewer already hears. The kit reads the video first. A sermon or faith teaching gets a faith voice and can name the Bible passage. A keynote, podcast, interview, lecture or lesson is written plainly, with no faith language and no passages. A caption may end with one gentle suggestion that fits the moment, such as saving it or sending it to a friend, and never with pressure like "type Amen". Change anything you like before you post.

Copy everything copies the whole kit at once. Older clips may show fewer blocks, and running the video again makes a full kit.
